Manor House and PaperHaus - Going A Little Rustic

Hi There,

More often than not I am drawn to the pretty and feminine toning's. Having two girls, my love for all things pretty and girly is often indulged.   Today though I have gone for something a little more on the rustic side and wanted to share a little of the creative process.

This one features lots of Manor House Creations loveliness from the new Spring Collection - 'Believe' patterned papers, flowers and embellishments:

Some masked detail with some texture paste was first applied to the background he background. Some misting was added over the top with Lindy's Stamp Gang - Dark Chocolate Truffle, Kissin' Kenickie Coral and Tiffany Lou Blue.

A little distressing of some of the edges adds texture and shabby appeal. I used the edge of a pair of scissors and ran them along the paper edge. The process was repeated a few times. I wasn't overly concerned if the paper tore as this adds to the overall distressed look. A little distress stain was applied to the edges to add depth and definition. If you do not have distress stain, ink will also do the job nicely.

Choose flowers and embellishments that coordinate with your color scheme. Die Cut embellishment from patterned paper. Add a little rustic appeal with some distress stain as I have done with the decorative frame element.  Also consider flowers made from book paper and fabric. To further enhance and make a little more rustic, distress stain was used.

Walnut Distress stain was applied to the flowers with a little water and a paint brush.

Press the top of the distress stain bottle down onto a plastic lid, acrylic stamp block or a non slip craft mat if you have one. Dip the paint brush bristles into the water, dip into the stain and then apply to the petals. Reapply the process for a darker look. If too much stain is applied, add a little water to dilute, blotting the excess with some paper towel.

Remember, if you don't have the right color blooms for your project, white flowers can easily be transformed using this altering process.

PaperHaus August Sketch, 7 Dots Studio Feature and Manor House Creations

Hello!

Today's project is brought to you with inspiration from the PaperHaus August Sketch, gorgeous 7 Dots Studio All I Ever collection and Manor House Creations floral beauty.

The sweet, giggling girl featured is my niece and I must thank her beautiful Mummy, Kristy Notting for allowing me to use these photos. Kristy specialises in natural light photography, and 'little people' are especially her favourite specialty.  I think that she does an amazing job!

So  first off, I thought I would share a little background behind my sketch interpretation:

I started with the PaperHaus August sketch created by Jules:

And rotated it 180 degrees, minimalised and moved the photo arrangement up towards the top.

Other design elements of the sketch are also moved upwards and  incorporated in the top half of my page:
The photos were arranged in a similar horizontal story board arrangement but were slightly angled.
I then when back to the original sketch orientation, minimalised and moved everything down towards the bottom of the page to create a mirror image effect. This time, I kept the photo arrangement in the straight horizontal arrangement.
The papers I have worked with are from the 7 Dots Studio ALL I EVER collection. I just love the heavier weight of the papers and the gorgeous pastel tonings. I have focussed on the lilac, salmon pink and blue of the collection.

I complimented the papers with some pretty Manor House Creations flowers in coordinating tones. White and Lilac Sweeties, Purple and Blue Shades, White Springtime, Solitude and  Purple Razzles feature. A  splash of watermelon was added with a few Rue blooms. Kaiser Sparklets were added to the flower centres to add a touch of glitzy bling.

‘There is no time like the present’...

Hi Everyone.

I have a ‘Steam Punk’ inspired compilation showcased recently on the PaperHaus Magazine Blog which I thought I would share a little of the creative process behind.

I have combined the  Kaisercraft Miss Empire Collection with lots of Twiddleybitz chipboard elements. You will also spy some of the recently released Twiddleybitz Steam Punk bitz amongst the mix.

A Twiddleybitz Plain Shadow Box creates the basis for the project and was constructed as per the included instructions.  Patterned papers from Kaisercraft’s Miss Empire collection were used to line the sides and base of the box. I have used 'Influence' and 'Realm'.  The Miss Empire ‘Brass’ Specialty Die Cut covers the front of the shadow box.

Before attaching, remove the middle part of the die cut, trimming around the floral elements. This will leave a larger frame element.  There will be a small gap where the edge of the frame sits to the inside edge of the frame. To fill this ‘gap,’ attach thin strips of coordinating patterned paper around the edge. I have used 'Influence'. Position and attach the die cut frame over the top.

Trim a piece from the ‘Regent’ paper to fit the inside base. I trimmed the paper so that the larger decorative element was included and sits in the upper right hand corner.

Embellish with assorted steam punk inspired ephemera. I incorporated a selection of Twiddley Steam Punk chipboard elements, metal trinkets, glass and fussy cut paper elements from Miss Empire patterned papers.

To add a touch of grungy texture to chipboard:

Dab ink over the chipboard piece and allow too dry. Apply some paper glaze, dimensional magic or similar randomly over the piece and sprinkle some Twinklets Diamond Dust over the top. I have also used plastic shards and coarser glitter if you don’t have Diamond Dust on hand.
Allow to set. Spritz over the top with color spray.
I find more intense colors work better and have used Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Bronzer, Teal and Gold for this project. When dry, dab over some of the diamond dust with Walnut Stain and Peacock Feathers Tim Holtz Distress Stains.

 Adding color variation to chipboard:

First ink the chipboard piece with one color:
Then dab a contrasting colored ink randomly over the top. Finish off by dabbing a little metallic Tim Holtz distress stain or metallic gold paint along the edges.

Play around the arrangement of elements before attaching everything in place. Use strong, clear drying glue for attaching embellishments.
Attach fussy cut paper elements with foam tape or dots to add depth and a little elevation.

PaperHaus Magazine: Remember Me

Hi and thanks so much for dropping by!

If you have landed here for the Scrapping Outback Chime in with Chipboard blog hop, HI and WELCOME, thanks so much for hopping by!!  My blog hop post is HERE

O.K so I am a just little excited (O.K a lot) to be now part of the PaperHaus Magazine Blog Contributors Team. So much inspiration, it's a fabulous team of talented individuals. You must check out the blog as there is always something new to see.

'Remember Me' is featured today.  I am first to admit that most of my paper crafting projects are dedicated to my two girls and it is not often that I focus on myself. It's something that I am trying to work on and change.

Whether it is coming out from behind the camera or documenting some personal aspect, the concept of  'Remember Me' gave me the opportunity to focus on well me... kinda scary LOL. It's important to remember that I also have my own life story that needs to be documented and celebrated.

So, I'll share a little background on my project '1972':

Being a ‘70’s’ child, all of my early ‘childhood’ photos are on slides.  It has only been of recent times with the advancement in technology that we have been able to slowly work our way through them and be able to scan and store them digitally.  Some of the images have deteriorated with time, but I was able to improve with some photo editing software.  These are the few that I have found so far of myself as a baby with my Mum and Dad and they are so precious to me.  I am so blessed to have a wonderful relationship with both my parents. Their guiding hands, values and love have steed me throughout my life.

I combined a few of my favorite things for this trip down memory lane back to the year 1972 – the year I was born.   I was a spring baby and wanted to include some pretty floral's to replicate the season. Fussy cut floral elements from Webster's Pages patterned papers have been layered with Twiddleybitz chipboard and Manor House Creations blooms.

'1972' Materials:
Cardstock: Bazzill
Patterned Papers: Webster’s Pages, Pink Paislee, Kaisercraft
Embellishments: Chipboard – Twiddleybitz, Flowers – Manor House Creations & Prima, Kaisercraft Rub On
Other: Prima Mask, Doily Mask, Cameo Girl’s Ring, Ribbon
Mediums: Gesso,Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Vintage Pink, Bubblegum Pink & Trunk Bay, Prima Ink

Trudi Harrison - You are Here

Welcome to blog stop 6 on your hopping journey today. Thanks so much for hopping over from the amazing Jelissa Mei.

Today I have a summer themed project to share with you. I was inspired by the warmth of a beautiful, glowing sunset after a hot summer's day, the coolness of turquoise blue waters and the sands of the beach.

Here is a look at what I have created for this special blog hop:

A little background altering was done with Mr Huey's Color Mist, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and a Prima Mask.
Papers from the recently released Kaisercraft  On This Day collection add a touch of summer spice.  This collection is all about romance but the toning and elements worked so well for this moment of my Miss E shallow wave running .
A Prima carnation vine adds a little floral delight.
In appreciation of you stopping by, I have a little mystery RAK to award. Make sure you leave me a message so that I can pop you into the draw. I'll be back at the conclusion of the PaperHaus Summer Delight Blog Hop to announce the recipient.
