In The Press - Creating An 'All That Glitters' Effect

Hello!

Sharing some projects that were featured in the Australian Scrapbook Ideas Magazine Issue 23. My brief was 'All That Glitters'.

Now I have to confess that glitter and bling truly does make a girls heart like mine sing. Glitter on its own can add a touch of sparkle to any project. Available in a rainbow of colours and consistencies, there is one surely fit to add the right amount of sparkling zing!

Try making your own glittering showpieces by adding a touch of glitter to embellishments. For 'A Loving Heart', I accented flower centres and  petal tips with glitter by applying clear drying glue and then dipping in glitter.
A similar process was done for the Twiddleybitz chipboard frames after they had been coloured. Consider pre glittered papers that available on the market or try accenting elements of patterned paper with glitter glue as I have done with the fussy cut blooms from Kaisercraft On This Day patterned paper - a few of the floral elements have beem accented with glitter glue.
Try sprinkling courser glitter or Twinklets Diamond Dust over a background area or chipboard piece, then add luscious iridescent colour with ink sprays and metallics
This creates a slightly more grungy glittering effect as seen on the large Twiddleybitz clock overlay  This is one of my favourite ways of altering chipboard and the colours can easily be altered by the choice of color spray that you use.
Go beyond just using glitter on its own as a highlight though. Something I really like to do is use it as a medium to create texture and shine. Create your unique cabochons with finer glitter set in paper glaze or dimensional magic. Personalise trinkets by adding glitter then add a few rhinestones and pearls.

For more a shabby look, try painting Twiddleybitz chipboard elements with white gesso paint and then press into glitter before the paint dries. If this is too messy for you allow the paint to dry, apply paint and then sprinkle glitter over the top, shaking off the excess.

Also try creating your own unique embellishments - stamped images look fabulous when stamped with Versa Mark and then sprinkle glitter over the top. Or try clear poly sparkle embossing powder and heat setting for shine and sparkle. Continue the glitz factor by looking beyond the glitter. Consider foil accented papers; pre glittered and jewel centred flowers, glitzy trinkets, swanky rhinestone and pearl flourishes, sparkling crystal and iridescent gemstones.

Oo La Lah!

So take your projects to the next level by adding a touch of glittering sparkle. It’s so much fun, go on I know you want to.
